Scar tissue disaster
« on: April 08, 2015, 05:36:21 PM »
I had gyno surgery mid January, almost 3 months ago (Lipo + gland removal).
My chest was perfectly flat the first 4 weeks post OP, I was really happy with the result but after 5-6 weeks scar tissue started to develop. I now have huge hard lumps behind both nipples.

My chest wasn't flat before surgery but I did not have any hard lumps only slightly puffy nipples!! I basically paid 2 months of salary to look worse than before. This "gyno" is now impossible to hide, nipples look like cones and are visible through cloths. (see attached pic)

I went back to my surgeon about 2 weeks ago, he said I should wait...
I am really concerned because it's not getting better, the lumps seem to get harder ever day.

I would like to know if this is actually scar tissue or breast tissue ? (surgeon wasn't able to tell..) If it's scar tissue, will it go away with time ?

The scenario you describe certainly fits with possible scar tissue growth.  You should check with your surgeon, however, and ask him if he removed all visible breast tissue beneath the nipples -- only he would know.

You should discuss possible treatment with kenalog with him.

Thank you for the quick answer Dr Jacobs. Last time I asked him about kenalog injection but he wants me to wait 2-3 months to see if it gets better.. Maybe I should call the clinic and ask for an appointment earlier

I cannot tell you what to do since you are not my patient.

However, in patients of mine who are similar to you, and when faced with apparent early and vigorous scar tissue growth, I usually jump in with kenalog earlier rather than later.  Remember, kenalog has two methods in which it works:  it melts scar tissue and shuts down production of new scar tissue.

That is good to hear ! I am 95% sure my lumps are scar tissue but what if I was wrong and it's actually breast tissue? ... What happens when Kenalog is injected into breast tissue ?

To my knowledge, kenalog has no effect on breast tissue.
