Like i said its been 11 weeks  just about 3 month
how much more of an improvement will i see ?

when i went for a post op , my doctor said i had alot of sagging skin ...  will that tighten up over time? is there anything i can do to help tighten it up?
my doctor says i may need surgury to get rid of excess skin ....  is there any other way@!!@!! =(

I still feel scar tissue in my chest , will that go away?
i messag them and go over it with a rolling pin everyday....  i press down pretty hard with the rolling pin..... should i be?

my doctor also says if i loose weight it will help with the results more ... what do you think?
can i start working out my chest after 11 weeks and scar tissue still in my chest?

Congratulations on your weight loss!  Does it not feel much better with that weight off?  75 pounds is quite an achievement.

After Major Weight Loss skin and supporting tissues retract only so much leaving sagging and drooping.  These are usually global factors affecting most regions of the body.  For men, the sagging chest is often the biggest concern.  However, there are often issues of the stomach, thighs, buttocks, arms, and more.  While a Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty can help with the front, a Lower Body Lift helps deal with the stomach, thighs, and buttock sagging.

Unfortunately, sagging skin is not addressed by liposuction, if anything it is usually made worse through deflation.  I have never understood why surgeons advocate such surgery. In my opinion, the results just do not look very good when there is a significant skin excess.  Low Nipples Do Not Look Good on the Male Chest. At the least, a patient should know about such issues before the operation.

Excess Skin of the Male Chest with Gynecomastia comes in various degrees.  Here are my Standard Pictures for Evaluating Extra Skin on the Male Chest.

Weight loss before surgery is usually much better than weight loss after surgery. Weight loss is a coarse tool, Plastic Surgery is better reserved for refinement. This is especially true when tissue sagging is a factor.  Why lift sagging tissue, lose more weight, and see that tissue sag again from further deflation?

Weight loss and surgical sculpture is a series of compromises. What suites any one individual will vary.  Ideal sequence that I recommend my patients:

  • Get to a weight you are comfortable living with.
  • Let the skin adjust as much as it will. It can take from 6 to 18 months for skin to equilibrate after a gastric bypass and major weight loss.
  • Consider Tightening Lower Tissues First. There is little sense to lift the chest and then have a tummy tuck, lower the chest result, requiring a revision chest lift.
  • Then Address the Chest.
  • Use No Surgery Body Shaping Garments as emotional support not to rush the process.

For some patients, my small incision skin reduction chest lift is an option.  This eliminates the unnatural very obvious unnatural vertical scar.  For smaller problems, I have evolved my Internal Lift Male Mastopexy Surgery that has even smaller scars.  My internal lift is not suitable when the excess skin is a major contributing factor for the deformity.  A Male Donut Mastopexy when pushed too far will leave a star burst deformity that detracts from the result. That is why picking your surgeon carefully can be so important.

Yes, scars are a compromise.  We need some place to remove the excess skin.  The shorter the scars, the less skin that is removed.

At this point, tissues need to heal after the liposuction. The other compromises still remain.  Options are best explored during an evaluation.

Hope this helps,

We don't have pre-op photos for comparison, but your post op photos look decent, but not perfect, given your background.  Certainly weight loss to a more normal weight is a terrific accomplishment -- not only for your body but for your general health as well.

Unfortunately, if you have been overweight only once in your life, your skin has been stretched and you have permanently lost some of its natural elasticity.  Your post-op results were predictable.

To answer your questions directly, six months or later is the best time to evaluate the results of your surgery.  It is possible that very slight additional tightening may yet occur -- but I feel sure you will still have some skin laxity.  There is nothing that you can do to help the skin to tighten -- unfortunately.

I would suggest you return to your surgeon at 6 months and discuss what is possible to do.  The benefit of time is that your skin will have tightened as much as it could thereby leaving you with less lax skin than if it had been treated all at once in your initial procedure.  This means that any future skin tightening will deal with less lax skin and hence smaller scars.  You must, however, accept the fact that there will be some additional scarring necessary in order to achieve a taut, trim chest.

You are well on your way -- good luck!

Assuming no healing problems, then you should be able to return to the gym by this time.  Working out can only help you to improve the size and contour of your chest muscles, which in turn will help to burn calories.

Massage, if needed at all, should be done with your finger tips -- not a rolling pin (barbaric!).  Use any skin cream as a lubricant.

A rolling pin, you have got to be kidding?  How ridiculous! After Surgery Scar Care is best individualized for each patient.  One tire does not fit all cars.

In bodybuilding, no pain no gain.  In healing, ignore the pain and you can hurt the healing.  Swelling is one sign of injury.  For my patients, peak swelling after gynecomastia surgery occurs at the time of my sculpture.  Pushing healing tissues too far too soon can be an issue.  This surgery has similarities to a sprain as far as return to activities.  Time until return to activity depends on the original problem, what was done, skill of the surgeon, complications after surgery, and many other factors.

Hope this helps,
