Nipple discolouration - raised scar tissue
« on: January 13, 2011, 08:39:05 AM »
Hi, had gland and lip over 2 months ago and overall very happy with the results. However as some of the scar dissolved, some came of my nipple leaving it a much brighter color than my areola. Will this darken in time and is there anything I can do to speed up the process, also anything I should avoid to ensure the color does return like sun exposure etc???

any help would be greeatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Sometimes during the healing process, some of the pigment cells are lost.  This can result in irregular color of the nipple or areola.

Oftentimes, Mother Nature heals this -- but it is exceedingly gradual and will take many months.  Would generally just wait it out.  After 8 - 12 months, if it has not improved, you might consider a medical tattoo professional to help even out the color.

With Summer coming up soon, will it be ok to get sun exposure on it or should I cover it up?

Thanks for your reply.

In general, exposure to the sun can encourage pigmentation.  Other times, it keeps a scar redder for a longer period of time.

I cannot prescribe for you unless I could actually examine you, sorry.
