Title: Total time for any compression garment?
Post by: yet-another on August 22, 2009, 05:54:20 PM
I wore the stage 1 for about 4 weeks and the stage 2 for another 2 weeks.  Now I have discontinued use of any garment.  This was about 2 weeks ago.  Should I have continued wearing the garments longer and if so would there be any benefit going back to it now that I have been off of anything for 2 weeks?

Thanks.

For most cases, what you have done would be sufficient.  However, if you find that you swell a bit when you exercise, then you might try using a snug garment for a few hours after the exercise just to get the swelling down.

Here is a general guide line for all post surgical gynecomastia patients. If tissue is excised, there is a cavity under the chest that takes 3 weeks to begin to heal and 6 weeks to have closure of the wound. The wound is not completely healed for about 3 months. It is very important to make sure there is good compression during the first 3 weeks. Compression for 6 weeks is ideal. Even longer compression may be helpful to decrease swelling but it is not essentially in my opinion.

I hope this helps give a visual as to the purpose of a garment.

For the first time around, the doctor only did lypo and then said that we would evaluate after about 6 months or so and determine if we needed to do the excision.  I can tell for sure that one side will need it for sure.

Since I will be getting one side excised, does it make sense for him to go into the other side as well just to see what he finds, even though there doesn't seem to be much tissue in that area?  Does that risk the chance of unevenness?

Does the fact that I just got lypo the first time around effect any of the compression garment comments about the 6 week timeframe?

Thanks!
