Title: Surgery with Levick 3/10/2013 - pre-op vs post-op pic now up
Post by: ScaredGuy on October 01, 2013, 05:26:54 PM
Hi all, I haven't been online in a while, I first posted a thread here with pictures of my enormous breasts included if you fancy a look:

https : //www. gynecomastia .org/smf/20/finally-accepted-i-need-surgery-cost-is-not-an-issue-but-i%27m-terrified/msg182606/#msg182606      (you'll need to remove the spaces in the URL)

I went to see Dr Levick, he was a friendly as everyone mentioned and I felt comfortable with him. Anyway, I should have posted this earlier, but I have my surgery booked for the morning slot on 3/10/2013, i.e. this Thursday, I'm absolutely cacking myself.

For those of you who've already been, what sort of attire did you take with you to sleep in and walk around to the toilet etc? Did you have gowns? My PJ's are normally just loose jogging bottoms and a baggy t-shirt, is that going to be difficult for me to get on and off after the surgery?

Also, is there anyone here who has had gyno as bad as mine and had surgery? I can't find any threads with cases are severe as mine. Levick said there is a 50% chance that I may have excess skin left around the area after the removal of the gyno, which I completely understand is not a fault of the surgeon, it's just because my gyno is so large, although I think it does look larger that it actually is because I have fairly large pectorals (or at least I think I do) which push the gyno out further.

I'm staying in a hotel after the op for a night, not sure if I am taking my laptop in with me but will definitely have my phone so I might be able to log in and let you guys know what it was like on the day. SO nervous but so looking forward to getting the body I deserve.

Can't really answer your questions, as not got that far myself yet! - but by all accounts you're in very good hands, one of the top few surgeons in the world for this op, with so many photos of so many people to prove it... I'm sure you'll get the best possible result.

You're in good hands so just try your best to relax. I didn't bring anything with me though they asked me if I had a gown and slippers so I really should have brought those along! Anyway it wasn't a big deal if I didn't. Just pack light cos you don't want to carry much away after surgery. As for your case of gynecomastia who knows if u will need a touch up, time will tell. Rest assured worse cases have been treated I am sure, there are cases where he would say you definitely need touch up work on loose skin and yours is only fifty percent chance. Best of luck tomorrow! Keep is posted

I've seen your pictures and I remember your earlier posts. I am far away in California on the west coast of the US.

Breathe easy, It will not take long and your discomfor will not be major. Give it time to heal, It could actually be several months before you see the final result.

We expect to hear good news from you.

When you say several months, how long before you think I can resume physical activity?

I have a snowboarding trip booked for the end of February, do you think I am going to be ready by then?

Any guys who are gym regulars, how long was it before you could start doing cardio like jogging again, and then how long after until you started gently getting back into weight lifting?

I'm so nervous now you wouldn't believe. I do have time today to go and get a gown, should I get that?

Hey mate, I'm 5 weeks post op and I've been doing leg weights for a few weeks now and I bench pressed for the first time since my op yesterday. I went pretty light and focused on more volume than weight but there was no negative feeling and it all felt good. You'll be all sorted long before your trip so i wouldn't worry too much about that. I reckon i'll have full mobility back by about 10 weeks, hopefully that isn't too optimistic.

I didn't have a gown though I think I should have! They also asked me if I had slippers but I didn't - I packed really light! All this meant was borrowing another gown from them and wearing my shoes in the operating theatre.

You are in very good hands and remember this surgery is surprisingly mild. People talk about exercising shortly after. Me, myself, I am back at work in the office less than a week after. Granted I still have discomfort and pain but it is quite incredible how fast we can recover. Be sure to take arnica, which is supposed to help, and avoid all the blood thinning stuff like alcohol and aspirin etc...

Best of luck, keep us posted! The food was good, so you have one thing to look forward to! lol

Thank you guys. I bought some new slippers but I will pop to an Asda or something now to see if I can get a gown. I appreciate your advice. I've just finished work and am driving to Birmingham this evening (should take about 2 hours). I am absolutely bricking it, seriously. Will be in touch as soon as I can. Thank you everyone again..........

Go guys had my surgery at around midday its 21.20 now. I had a bad response to the anaesthetic in that I kept nodding off and waking feeling really groggy etc and also boiling hot and sweaty etc, I'm OK now though just a little drowsy. No pain yet just very slight stinging sensation where the incisions were made but nothing bad. Will update when I can

Sucks about the anaesthetic, glad to hear you're OK now though! Looking forward to more updates - with Levick, there's no doubt that everything will turn out as you'd hoped, he seems to be a miracle worker from all the pictures on here!

This has also reminded me to get slippers & a gown, so cheers for that ;D

2a.m. now I haven't fallen asleep yet because of the sleep I had earlier. I've been in the bed the entire time watching TV and browsing the net on my phone etc. Got out of bed at one point and took a few steps and definitely felt sore not sure if it was the actual chest or the drains. Levick did say that I have "whoppers" so I'm guessing I'll be more sore because more of my body has been removed. Not looking forward to having the drains pulled out and dressing tomorrow but hopefully I'll heal a little tonight .............

Hey mate - hope you managed to rest up. I had surgery yesterday with Karidis, at home today and it's pretty uncomfortable, but not more than it would be with my shirt off in public! I also had problems with the GA, woke up in recovery room and found it difficult to breathe properly. Ended up on oxygen during the whole day which was annoying, but I think it was more the vest wasn't quite on properly for me. So a bit of readjusting and some codeine later I felt much better.

I haven't looked yet nor do I really want to to be honest, not until it is all recovered! Still, I have a shower to look forward to today, taking a few bandages etc off. Waiting for a call to check up on me before I do anything.

Hope your recovery goes well. I'll prob post a few things up on the wall, and fingers crossed this episode in our lives is over quickly, much more important things to look forward to.

All the best.

Thank you for the kind words my friend I hope you're doing okay.

*** Update * **

This morning was my first walk around my room and I felt okay took some side view pictures of myself in the gown and the difference is unbelievable, I look............. slim.

Just now had my drains pulled out and need to lie in bed for twenty minutes and I will admit it did hurt, the left side is still hurting as if some blood is leaking inside or something I hope it'll wear off.

Also Dr. Levick came to see me this morning and he gave me the pics. Guys I think you're going to amazed, he said I am one of the biggest breast size patient he's ever done and you'll see that even I upload the pics later on if I get time. It looks like he's resting two massive beef burger patties on my chest, I was big but I didn't realise there was that much in me, can't wait to upload the pics.

*** Question***

Guys I apologise for asking this but please can someone who's had the op let me know, did you manage OK going for a number 2 on the day after? Luckily I don't need to yet but I'm not looking forward to it, since my drains have been pulled out I feel extremely sore and I can't imagine reaching around behind me to clean. Did you guys cope okay with that?  It won't tear my wounds or anything if I try will it? Thanks for your help in answering this strange question.......

Congrats mate you're on the other side!! Looking forward to seeing the pics.

Yeh it was difficult at first reaching down to wipe but just take your time with it and move slowly. I used a down in between my legs approach to wipe as reaching all the way around wasn't really possible. Hope this helps!

Me lying down with flat chest and gyno tissue on top of my chest. I clearly have loose skin at the moment, I've not even dared to look under my bandages yet, I probably won't until after the week is up and I can remove them. Anyways, for the grand finale, here is some of the biggest boob you've seen, removed:

That sure is a long of junk and gunk gone from your chest - I think you're going to have to throw a lot of clothes away now!

Happy recovery!

Thank you mate. Because my gyne was so large it kinda went with my build type and with clothes on I sorta looked like I had huge pecs (because I always wore a compression top underneath so it flattened my breasts). When I looked at myself after the op in the down  from a side on view I just look like a different person I couldn't believe it. Three days in and still sore but getting better. Back is really starting to ache from sleeping in the same position all the time. Sorry to keep posting but other than my gf this place is the only place that knows I've had this done so I feel like I've got real friends here :)

Wow great results. I also have the same size as yours and planning for surgery soon

But mate how well has the skin tightened? Did Dr Levick say that you would need another surgery for skin removal ?

Hi friend, so far I have no idea how the skin is coping. I haven't even peaked under the bandages, I'm scared to do so just in case I ruin the bandaging.

At the consultation Levick said that I had a 50/50 chance that I would need skin removal, but then after the surgery he said "I think you'll  get away with it". Also he mentioned that if I work on my pecs at the gym it would fill up the area so I'm quite looking forward to getting back to the gym and pumping as much iron as possible.

I'm still in a fair bit of pain and can't move without looking like a robot but I don't regret it. In 6 months time hopefully I'll look at myself and be happy.

Hope you dont need any ski removal.. I am sure it is worth it.. I should have also gone under the knife before but the fear of anesthesia had put me off.. now I have decided to go ahead.

How was your anesthesia experience?

Do you need to visit Dr LEvick for any surtures removal ?

Also if skin was to be removed what did Dr Levick say it is a free procedure ?

Post by: ScaredGuy on October 08, 2013, 01:29:33 AM
To be honest I didn't ask if the procedure would be free or if it would be discounted. I really hope it would be discounted. He said that it would take around a year for the chest to look like how it will look forever so six months in I'm going to hit the weights hard and hope that my chest fills out.

About the anaesthesia, I'm not going to lie to you, I had an absolutely horrible experience. I was told it would just be like falling asleep and waking up but it really wasn't for me. To be honest I won't go into detail here unless you really want me to because I don't want to put you off having the operation. As you can tell by my username I've been putting it off for years because I was too scared. If you've got boobs the same size that I had then I can't imagine how badly it's affecting you, so if you have the money please do it. When I looked at myself in my operating gown from the side I just looked like a completely different person it felt unreal and I cried a little bit.  Hope you've got your consultation booked and let me know if you do want me to tell you what my anaesthesia experience was like and I will gladly share.

Hope all is going well for you! Is tomorrow the big day when you get to see your chest

Hi guys.

Firstly I want to apologise, I haven't taken any pics yet. I just want to explain.

Today was the day that the bandages came off, and today was the freakiest day of my life. Firstly, removing the bandages was probably the most painful part of the entire thing, the things are glued on so tightly that I bled while removing them as it removes some skin. After a while what I did was just stood under a hot shower to try and make it easier but it didn't make that much of a difference.

Also, when I finally saw my chest, it was SO weird seeing myself NOT having breasts that I nearly fainted in the shower, I kid you not. Please go back in the thread to take a reminder of how big my boobs were. I could literally fill up my entire hand when I cupped one of them. Not they are completely gone it's weird, it feels like part of my body is gone. I gently touched my right pec and there is NO feeling in there whatsoever, that is the freakiest thing which is scaring the crap out of me I can't stop thinking about it. I got out of the shower as soon as possible without looking at myself in the mirror, and I dried myself but I've left my chest area naturally dry. I was too afraid to touch.

I can't fully explain the sensation but it feels like I'm in someone else's body. From what I can tell I think I had one of the largest gyne on the UK forum, or at least out of people who've posted pictures anyway. From the other guys pics, it seems like they've had a slight reduction in the chest area but for me this is like 4-5 inches protruding from my body that is just no longer there. I'm trying to occupy myself best I can to not think about it, but I'm really happy with trying on some of my clothes, especially the plain white stuff I've wanted to wear for years.

The actual chest area itself looks good. Both nipples seem slightly "indented" in that it looks like so much has been sucked out of me that they're now facing inwards, that's freaky for me to handle. Also my right pec has a sort of "dent" somewhere nothing too severe which I hope is something that'll slot itself back into place once the recovery happens.

Hi beast5729, recovery seems to be going as standard from what I've read of other guys blogs. Today since taking the bandages off I feel a lot more mobile but I'm still being VERY careful with any fast movements as if I walk fast down the stairs for example I feel slight pain in my chest. I could definitely gone back to work say a couple of days ago when I was able to drive (slowly and carefully) as I just have a desk job.

Thanks guys for being here, having someone to talk to about it makes it better for me!

Good to hear things are slowly going in the right direction!
I think from what I have read it is pretty standard to feel numb... So I wouldn't worry about that too much!
How was the bruising??

I think you are right.... It's nice to have a place like this to come to and talk! I guess it makes you realise you are not alone! Keep us up to date with how things are going.... Will have my fingers crossed for you that things work out nicely for you! :)

Hi guys. I mustered up the courage to take a couple a shot after my shower today. To be honest not having my compression stuff on really freaks me out at the moment so I used the reverse cam function where the phone acts as a mirror, close my eyes and aimed at my chest.

I've put my previous picture next to it so you can compare. My left nipple looks a bit weird if you look closely at the pic but that's the lighting or the angle or something, it's not there in another pic I took.

Also I noticed that my left looks like there may be a bit more skin at the lower pec. I'm not worried at the moment, it doesn't look anywhere near as bad as the post-op pic of the guy Levick showed me. He had gyno similar to mine and after the op he had a proper floppy bit of loose skin. I've had massive breasts for so long that the skin underneath my breasts has out darkened so the line underneath my pec looks worse than it is. Also I should point out I think (or at least I hope so) that my pec muscles are fairly developed as before the op I was able to bench press 120Kg for about 4-5 reps. Anyway, long road to recovery now and I can't wait to see how it turns out.

The best part is without any major reduction surgery which has scars across the chest you are able to get such a great result. Its amazing

Who knows after 3 months you may get even better result

Hi guys. Thank you for the kind words.

Unfortunately I don't really have any side view pics except for what I've posted in this forum.

I did have another thread as well from a couple of months back when I was first asking for advice, I think it's probably on page 2 of the UK forums, but the angle of the pic is more or less the same. I did (and still do) have some excess underneath the armpit but it's ok because that is generally because I'm overweight at the moment anyway. Around June this year I was at a good weight and fairly lean and that fat/skin/whatever wasn't there and I could see the outline of my lats when I tensed up.

As from last night I've started eating a bit better (no sweets and chocolates etc) and when I'm about 4 weeks into recovery I'm going to give the diet a lot more effort and go very light on the carbs.

I'm also going to try out a procedure called "ilipo" for the stubborn fat I have on my body. It's a couple of hundred quid depending on where you go but the results I've seen are fantastic (my sister did it and lost 4 inches). When I'm lean through diet and have had my belly fay removed with ilipo, will get some ilipo done underneath the arms if I'm not happy with it and go from there.

Feeling slightly better as the days go by. Yesterday and today are probably the first days where I'm not walking like I've got a stiff back or stiff neck. I'm walking naturally but I don't walk fast at the moment and avoid anything that makes my chest area "bounce". Absolutely cannot wait to get back in the gym.

Great Result bud!
Early stages for us both of us.

Iv'e still got swelling to the sides of the chest, it will take a few weeks I think.

The worst part for me is not being able to go to the gym, same as you I really can't wait to hit arms! haha

Hi beast, I responded to your PM, did you get it?

Things are going ok so far. I was thinking I might take some pics tomorrow (2 weeks post op) to check on how things are under there. I'm not even looking at myself in the mirror when I'm naked right now. I still have no feeling in a large part of my chest area so I get freaked out seeing that, I just feel "safe" when I'm all covered up :S

Hope you're looking forward to your OP and all is well.

Hi guys, couple more pics. This is 16 days post-op. Pictures show that I do have a little bit of excess skin on the left nipple. I'm not too concerned at the moment, I'm just happy at the fact that I can walk around wearing normal clothes.

What I am disappointed at is how much weight I've let myself put on, I've been eating whatever I want really without taking care of my diet.

Yesterday that changed, I went for my first session back at the gym. Of course when I say this, the workout was completely different to what I'm used to. I did 20 mins on a spinner, 5 minutes on a stepper (on a hard setting so I was out of breath), 10 minutes walking at brisk pace on the most steep incline the treadmill would go to, this also got me out of breath. Then I spent 10 minutes on the crosstrainer, I was a little concerned as arms are involved but it was ok.

Then I did something I shouldn't have, but I trained arms..... slightly. Now before anyone shouts at me, I was very careful with what I did. I used dumbells for bicep curls, and I used 10Kg dumbells for about 20 reps, nice clean slow reps so literally the biceps were isolated and there was no involvement from any other muscle group. Did something similar with triceps using the cable machine. I'm really happy that I went because I didn't feel any pain doing any of these exercises, I had been sitting at home on a couch for 16 days in a row eating, so it's about time to start doing something. Just can't wait until I can do other stuff now but I can't even jog yet because the "bounce" is too painful.

Second post for the second picture attached to show the excess skin. I'm in work at the moment so I can't really do a "comparison" picture as I don't want to bring up a picture of my old boobs on the screen.

Great result, what a change!

I wouldn't worry about the excess skin yet, just let your body adjust and getting back to the gym and a good diet will also help. Your recovery looks good too without much bruising either.  :)

That doesn't look like excess skin anyway mate, it looks like swelling to me so dont worry about that to much it will even out eventually.

16 days should be fine up the gym to do anything your comfortable doing, you might want to get some underarmour to keep everything tight when your doing cardio,

Hey guys, had surgery with levick this morning. Two interesting points for you all - he didn't use drains and uses a different type of bandage! So, instead of drains he uses a fibrin spray inside of the gland cavity which prevents bleeding and aids clotting. He said it was the modern approach and time he used this method. So no drains for me! And I've got a different garment on, imagine a boob tube style top a girl would wear bit which fastens with velcro and is tighter and more rigid. I can take it off on Monday, shower and then use the standard Compression garment I got from Design Veronique. I am a slim guy and had puffy nipples. Dr levick got a fair amount of gland out though - about the size of a fried egg each side if you include the surrounding fat he took out.

Currently in bed with leg pumps on and on my third jug of water. Staff here are absolutely wonderful and Dr levick is brilliant - you couldn't ask for a nicer surgeon!

Will post more later guys.

Hey guys, I'm 4 weeks and 1 day into recovery now. I've added a few pics I took yesterday which was exactly 4 weeks in, also just added the before pic in again as a reminder to how disgustingly bad my gyno was.

Recovery is going ok, but slower than I expected. The pictures don't show it very clearly but I still have bruising. Also the feeling where the gyno was has not returned and also for some reason on my right upper pec I've got a huge amount of soreness, not quite where the incision was but almost there. The pain is activated if I try and use my right hand to reach under my left arm-pit for example.

On the bright side, I'm definitely feeling better. Every 2 or 3 days I notice a little but more mobility. I started going to the gym lightly  after about 16 days post-op where I just sat on a spinner and walked uphill on a treadmill. As of a few nights ago I'm managing to increase what I can do at the gym, I've done squats, managed to do some light arm workouts and also what I feel happy about it I can just about manage to jog (making sure I'm not bouncing as much) without pain so there's is definite progress. I'll try my best to keep you guys updated
