George H. Pope M.D.
Dr. George Pope is a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in gynecomastia surgery. It has been the Number One surgical procedure in his practice for the past several years. Dr. Pope has been in private practice in Plastic Surgery in Orlando, Florida since 1988. He grew up in Louisiana, where he graduated from LSU in Baton Rouge and then LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport. He completed prerequisite surgical residency training at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans and plastic surgery residency training in Louisville, Kentucky. He has been in Orlando ever since and is proud that he has been voted “Best Plastic Surgeon” by readers of Orlando Magazine and voted “Top Plastic Surgeon” by his medical peers for the last several years.
Gynecomastia is a condition which can cause significant embarrassment and emotional stress in men.
Most of the men with this condition whom I see in my office go to great lengths to hide their true chest appearance from everyone, often even their sexual partner. Here in Florida, where it’s almost always very hot, it’s pretty tough to have to wear tight, compressive undergarments in addition to regular clothing, yet most of my patients have done so for years.
Men with gynecomastia typically avoid social situations where they must go shirtless. I’ve had patients tell me they won’t even go swimming with their children. It’s this psychological toll that gynecomastia takes on men that has fueled my interest in this surgery and helped make it the Number One surgical procedure in my practice for the past several years.
I strive to help my patients feel better about themselves and specifically feel comfortable wearing a bathing suit in public again. I feel it is imperative to create a natural chest appearance with minimal scarring. If a patient doesn’t feel good about walking around without a shirt on in public after surgery, the goal has not been achieved.
Because gynecomastia surgery is such a large part of my practice, I have worked with my office staff to make the “Destination Surgery” experience as smooth and simple as possible for our many patients outside the Orlando area. My patient coordinator, Lisa Crews, works closely with all of my patients throughout the entire surgery process. Patients outside the Orlando area can email their photos to Lisa at [email protected] for my evaluation. We strive to keep patient cost down by minimizing trips to Orlando.
We are excited about our new office in New Orleans, scheduled to open for patient consultations in April of 2014. Although I will not be performing surgery in New Orleans, my regular presence in that community will make it easier for my patients in that part of the country to have consultations and postoperative care.

I tailor the surgical procedure to the individual patient, and I find that most patients require a combination of tumescent liposuction and direct tissue excision. I perform surgery in my licensed, accredited surgical facility in my office building, under
